This month's mood: Quiet The Noise
This July, I'm turning the volume down.. way down with these practices.
This month, I’m trying something I’ve never really done before.
Not a challenge. Not a goal. Not even a reset.
Just… less noise.
And I’ll be honest… that’s super hard for me.
I am a competitive person who works in social media. I was not only raised to do but I earn through consuming. I thrive on data, competition, goals.
If I’m not tracking my steps or doing more than I did yesterday, I lose motivation.
I have to see the number. I have to know I’m “doing well.”
And I happen to live in Bangkok… one of the most incredible but visually overstimulating, sensory-saturated city I’ve ever. You walk out your door and you’re hit with food courts, outlet malls and market stalls on every corner. Bubble tea, fried chicken, Korean skincare, K-pop merch, something always on sale. It’s a city that celebrates through consumption.
And finally, there’s my phone. I’m hopelessly addicted. To the endless scrolling, online shopping, Youtube Shorts.. sigh.
So this month, I’m going to quiet the noise.
I want to hear my own voice. My thoughts. Making choices without being influenced by others. I want to be bored. I want to see who I am beneath all the endless stuff I consume.
This is my July social experiment.
Some of My Quiet the Noise Practices
Morning walks + analog journaling
I’ve been waking up early, walking to the park, and journaling without my phone. The goal is to let my thoughts breathe without interference. One thing at a time
Whether I’m playing with my toddler or washing my face, I’m trying to do it fully. Not half-scrolling, not mentally somewhere else.MORE Hot showers
Long, spa-style showers. Scrubbing, oiling, moisturizing, taking my time. Turning what’s usually rushed into something intentional.Cozy drink rituals (aka less caffeine)
I’m experimenting with cozy drinks instead of coffee — turmeric lattes, cacao with cinnamon, herbal teas. Just slowing down the dopamine loop.Joyful movement
Yoga, breathwork, solo dance parties in my room… not for the steps, not for the stats. Just for how it makes me feel.Home facials + massage dates with myself
Every week, I’m carving out time to pamper myself without waiting for a special occasion.Romanticizing the mundane
Getting dressed just to sit and work at my desk. Wearing lipstick to do my emails. Letting beauty be a daily thing. Adding my fav accessories just because.Recipe experiments with my toddler
We’re making “pancake muffins” with new fillings every day — sweet potato one day, banana-blueberry the next, maybe peanut butter and chocolate tomorrow. It’s messy and silly and perfect.Stopping to take photos of anything and everything
Stray cats. A patch of sky. A crumpled flower on the ground. I’m thinking of getting an analog camera just to make it more fun and not have to reach for my phone.Staring into space with handpan music
If you haven’t discovered Malte Marten on YouTube, I can’t recommend him enough. I listen to his music while walking, journaling, or even cooking… it’s soft, rhythmic, and lets you think.
Some Journaling Prompts for July That I will be reflecting on:
What am I really looking for when I scroll?
Why am I afraid to be bored?
What do I enjoy doing when no one is watching?
What does my voice sound like when the noise stops?
What can I do instead of consuming content?
What’s your theme for July?
Are there any rituals, swaps, or slow joys you want to explore too?
Let’s quiet the noise together. 🤍
